network monitoring by company

I connect to my company's network when in the office through a LAN cable and can connect from a remote site through a VPN icon we have. Since we travel a lot, they have given us 2nd or what we call a personal hard to replace the work one with for personal use when on the road or at home. Aside from physically having the hard drive and inspecting it can they monitor anything I am doing or have on this drive. For example if I am plugged into my cable modem at home can anything I do come back to haunt me as long as I never plug into the network or someone physically has the drive. VPN is disabled on this drive. Just want to be safe.

Hello,

There are ways for your company to track what you are doing on their equipment. If you are connected to your hard drive and not the network, they wont be able to track your activity at that time but they can request you bring the equipment into the office and their IT people can look and see what you have been doing with their equipment.

Your best bet is to make sure you are not doing anything you shouldnt be doing with company property. When in doubt, do what you are supposed to do and you will be fine.

Thanx,

Brandon
