I re-installed hard drive on my Windows 2003 server. I get the below message when I restart the server. ISASS.EXE - SYSTEM ERROR Security accounts manager initialization failed because of the following error: directory service cannot start. Error status: 0xc00002e1. Please click OK to shutdown this system and reboot into directory services restore mode, check the event log for more detailed information. Is this because I have not used the correct slot for the drives installation.

I assume this problem is because of the shutdown has not happened correctly before you started the maintenance; this might have corrupted the AD database. To restore the process you need to do an AD diagnosis.
