What are some key factors to consider in implementing virtualization in an organization?

For my organization, physical equipment costs was a HUGE part. Combine that with the cost of racking all of the servers made it pretty easy to decide to virtualize most of our servers. We chose to go with VMware as our platform as it is more mature then Hyper-v and offered us more features than we were actually looking for.
