Is there a way to know if your hard drive has been copied?

I know that a lot of TV shows are so hi-tech these days that it seems that the IT guys on the shows can detect anything. So is it possible to know if someone has copied your portable hard drive? Maybe yes, maybe no.

It's possible that some C++ shell scripts can monitor files or folders to compare if files are modified or copied. Maybe anti-virus programs do have that feature or existing toolkit software may have this feature as well.
