We are using Sagem Morphosmat 1300 as a biometric authentication system in a hospital. The device is powered by batteries located on the cart. The USB fails on these devices when we have to plug and unplug the devices a number of times each day. It doesn't have this problem when the devices are plugged into desktop devices and running on laptop battery power.

Get the vendor involved. Maybe even an IT staff to see why the USB fails. Something like Windows safe removal manager must run before unplugging. Maybe environment moisture too.
