How secure is data with cloud computing?

Cloud computing came up because of availability issues. We don't want to setup our own IT room, equipment, security, and staff. Right now, we are looking at this prospect and wonder if data is secure with cloud computing?

As a general rule, cloud computing providers do not reveal how secure is their data. You just know that they have staff and they will do their best to ensure confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

Maybe one way to make your data secure is through encryption. Encrypt your data and store-as-a-service. The provider need not have your encryption software. You hold it at your end so that you can decrypt or encrypt your data. But security is not an absolute thing.
